League Communication:
Originator: John Toes. WCL Child Welfare Officer
CHILD WELFARE
It is a Wetherby Cricket League requirement that all member clubs appoint a “Club Welfare Officer” even if they do not field junior teams.
The names and contact details of these persons must be supplied to the League for inclusion in the Club Handbook and any variation to these details during the course of the season must be advised immediately in writing to the League Secretary. Clubs should be aware of matters relating to Child Welfare and Young Player Guidelines which were included in the February 2009 YCB Newsletter, and are on the YCB/YCA and ECB websites.
These are summarised below:-
1. CRB disclosure renewals – if your certificate is due for renewal or has expired you should have received a reminder and a new CRB disclosure form. However, it is understood that this is not always happening. It is the responsibility of each individual to ensure that they renew their CRB before the expiry date. If you need a form contact Jack Carson (01924 405 512) or John Toes (01937 835 853).
2. Young Players over 11 but under 13 can only play in adult matches with parental consent. The “Child Welfare Junior Membership and Registration Form” has been modified to provide a “Consent Box” to make this straightforward to operate. Young players under 11 cannot play in adult matches without the permission of the League.
3. Young Wicketkeepers will be able to wear face guards rather than helmets subject to their suitability – tests are currently being undertaken and further information will be available in the April 2009 YCB Newsletter.
4. “Time to Listen” workshops will be introduced at a later date
5. YCB leaflets on Child Welfare are being updated and will be issued with the April YCB mail out.
All queries on Child Welfare matters within the Wetherby Cricket League should be referred to John Toes (01937 835 853).
